The point of Labour is to be electable, right now. Move people left gradually, rather than be doomed to opposition while the right make things worse. For example, how the hell are the tories not facing a 97 style obliteration?
I don't pretend to know UK. In US, data show, what's "electable" is recognizing politics isn't solitaire - what we say has to work *and* confront what other side is saying. And colorblind populism fails as rejoinder to their race-baiting. https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/the-answer-to-gop-dog-whistles-democrats-should-talk-more-about-race-not-less/2018/08/22/7cfa4d3a-a184-11e8-8e87-c869fe70a721_story.html?utm_term=.5955cbb22316 …

Sure, that's not really the same here though. Should Labour be talking up progressive ideas? Of course. Trying to frame the EU as neoliberal and advocating policies there's currently very little appetite for is just dooming us to more neoliberalism.
