I often get asked how an anarchist society would organise various aspects of society such as healthcare or transport. Watch this video to learn why I as an individual can't answer these questions in detail but can only indicate a method for doing so.

This tendency to misunderstand or misrepresent one another was grounded in their personal drama: both thought the other was an authoritarian trying to take over the international. As modern socialists we aren't involved in this feud and so can examine things more objectively.

Or Bakunin makes the mistake of critiquing Marx as part of a more general critique of German state socialism and as a result conflates Marx's specific views with those of others such as Lassalle.

For example Marx wrongly argues that Bakunin rejects political struggle. When actually Bakunin rejects electoral politics in favour of direct action against the state. I explain this in this video.

Both Marx and Bakunin misrepresented each others ideas. As a result an understanding of their similarities and differences has to be derived from reading both of them in depth, rather than just repeating their straw men of one another.

Whenever I tweet about Marx I get Marxists accusing me of not having read Marx. I suggest you go watch my videos on Marx and realise that someone could have spent lots of time reading Marx and drawn very different conclusions than you. My videos on Marx are as follows:

Things Marx and Bakunin had in common - materialists - commitment to individual freedom as self-direction + human development - belief in self-emancipation of the working class - belief that workers will transform themselves into revolutionary agents through collective struggle

Marx and Bakunin have more in common with each other than Marx and Stalin.

A common trick critics of Bakunin engage in is referring to texts Bakunin wrote before he became an anarchist, such as his 1848 appeal to the slavs, and bringing them up alongside discussions of Bakunin's anarchist politics without pointing this out to the reader.

Saying you can't be racist cos your friend is a person of colour is like saying you can't be sexist cos you're married to a woman.

Malatesta on the dictatorship of the proletariat in his 1919 letter to Luigi Fabbri.

For example in this letter Pannekoek critiques anarchism whilst arguing for anarchist positions about the importance of organisation, solidarity and councils. He's literally repeating things Bakunin argued for in 1868 let alone the theory of the movement.

Its very depressing reading council communists advocate very similar views to anarchism and then also rehash awful Marxist straw men critiques of anarchism. Why didn't they just read Malatesta and have an existential crisis about how everything they thought they knew was wrong?
