This is why I hate seeing, "There is help out there... If you or anyone you know is suffering with... Why didn't anyone try to help their family member blah blah." It isn't easy to get anyone mental health help. Families beg & beg for help or guidance. My heart goes out to Andrew

Been there, done that. Most people who are bipolar like my son are very smart and can convince the police that they’re fine and you’re just overprotective and trying to control their life. The last hospital stay (thankfully 14 years ago!) happened because my son’s friend lied!

I’ve been through it too. My family member was also able to seem completely sane when necessary until finally she talked herself into a circle in front of her psychiatrist, which rattled her enough to enable us to convince her to admit herself. Horrific ordeal

We really need trained mental health professional first responder units in
It is terrifying to call the police in these situations
Hoping your loved one doesn't end up shot before they can get help
"if you can find/afford the right help"
It's harder than ppl know.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Thanks Ana, sooo true. The system is under staffed and the training is lacking on the side of the public, the police and other services. I don’t really know what to do In this kind of emergency- imagine if this woman did not have family trying to help her-so frustrating.

Thank you
@ananavarro for speaking out about this. As a psychiatric nurse I fight for my patients and fight to end the stigma of mental illness. We MUST do more!!!#NoMoreStigmaThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

at some point the neglect and mistreatment of the homeless and mentally ill (two circles that partially overlap) bespeak the desire for both groups to not exist anymore. the intentional neglect can't really have any other meaning.

Also, there are seldom sufficient beds to house mentally ill patients who require hospitalization for their own safety.

To do that we also need to bring back the state mental hospitals and add beds to them. Some need long term hospitalization to be able to cope, acknowledge and handle their disease. We no longer have that option.
