Writers write for their audiences. Especially when they're paid to do so. Look first at the expectations of those who are [directly or indirectly] paying the writers' salaries, and you will have your answers.
I recently started reading sports news bc it was inauthentic to call myself a Bills fan while being uninformed (rule applies elsewhere). My take is that sportswriters write like Tiger Moms. Always expecting perfection, scrutinizing wins. Why not celebrate every hint of progress?
