What will it take to make internet and connected devices accessible to all, like public education, parks, roads/bridges, and transit? Schools, transport infrastructure, public transit, and greenspace are considered 'public goods.' When can we add fiber networks/telecom?

If we don't decide to do this after the pandemic has (somewhat) subsided, we've learned nothing...and shame on us.

Sigh. Completely right - broadband is a public good. Chattanooga got it right. Our best chance now is with 5G but I worry that the tinfoil hat brigade will inhibit its fast, ubiquitous and fair adoption. Nothing would make me happier than giving Spectrum a wireless competitor!

I’m appalled that New York State built the Erie Canal (@NYSCanalCorp) between 1817 and 1825, opening the port of New York to Chicago and the Great Lakes and thus the United States economy, and we consider it impossible to dig holes for fiber internet connectivity in 2020.

I feel like a broken record on this sometimes, so I apologize in advance, but Chattanooga is almost the perfect case study for this and the transformation that comes with municipal fiber: https://twitter.com/stvcrtr/status/1252376335227351041?s=21 …https://twitter.com/stvcrtr/status/1252376335227351041 …

Chattanooga, TN did this years ago. Went city-wide with their installation of super fast fiber internet. It’s been a game changer for them, and worth learning from any city – especially now: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/ezpk77/chattanooga-gigabit-fiber-network …

It is a necessity if we are going to teach children remotely, and want to have equity.
