    One of my favorite Rochester “things” is asking people about their Ice Storm memories. Mine was a family slumber party at my Grandma’s apartment (she had power). I also remember we lost a beautiful white birch tree at our old house.

    30 yrs ago today the most costly natural disaster to strike NYS began (since surpassed). The ice storm produced 17 straight hrs of freezing rain. Strangely, as icing started, only a winter storm watch was in effect (no ice storm warning). WHAM radio became a lifeline.

    Today, my Grandpa Victor Liss would‘ve turned 100! He was a Chicagoan, a Polish-American, an excellent bartender, a USPS mailman, a loving father of 7, an entertainer, and did not suffer fools. He’s in heaven enjoying a properly-mixed Old Fashioned. I wish I knew him longer. 🥃
