This is a terrible tragedy and awful end to a brutal year. It is a system failure that resulted in irreversible harm to two families. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. We will hold the man who did this accountable. We will support the families of the victims

Respectfully, I offer to you that the disparities, inequities, and the hate embedded in Jim Crow is centuries old. It will not be dismantled overnight. To think it can be done in one year as the new SFDA is unrealistic and naive.

I completely agree, and my fear is that this movement won’t get the chance to come to fruition due to short term overcorrections and a failure to manage the messaging to keep/gain public support. Right now I think we are seeing a failure in both.

Following his release from prison for an armed robbery of a San Francisco business in April 2020, the SFPD arrested Troy McAlister on burglary, possession of a stolen car or other charges five times. Each time no prosecution occurred due to fears of three-strikes ramifications.
