    10) Journalists are not trying to get you. We don't want to ruin your life or reputation, any more than our own. We're on the same team in the sense that we all want to build a more science-literate society. Let's do it!

    8) For most people, the seed of their interest in science boils down to some kind of love. Remember that and convey it, if you can. 9) No announcing we're "off the record" in the middle of a call. If I requested an interview and you said yes, we're on the record.

    7) Talking to people outside of your field is an opportunity to be an ambassador for science Knowledge may be coin of the realm in research, but remember that looking down on people is bad manners, (and if you're really hard to work with, who wants to report on your work again?)

    6) If you think a reporter was careless with details of your research in the past, I'm sorry and please tell me. Journalists are busier and busier these days. I bet the reporter was just rushed and really didn't mean to make a mistake. Help me avoid making the same error.

    4) Speaking of accuracy, getting it right is important to me too. It's also my reputation on the line. 5) Even tho the research is yours, the reporting is mine. I'm going to fact check it with you, but scientists, wouldn't it be overreaching if I tried to do your job for you?
