Blessed to have hosted our speaker, . On behalf of Stanford, thank you for a day of stimulating scientific discussion and for sharing your efforts to characterize and understand the role of microglia in development, adult homeostasis, and disease!

The Twitter has been approved by the boss and is LIVE. Follow for science and lab shenanigans. Give recommendations for what we should tweet about.

Hello, fellow academics! I’m helping with a new study on how PhD qualifier/prelim exams affect the mental health of grad students and would love input. Were your prelims/quals stressful? How did they affect your well-being? Any thoughts on them in general?

Great piece by about work culture and expectations in academic science, and how the current system will only continue to propagate its own issues and fail to be equitable and productive.

I wrote this deeply personal piece and I chose bravery over fear. My OpEd in today’s about why I left my faculty position in academia last month and what losing Black faculty means for our students and patients.

Last year asked the twitterverse a really important question about graduate school interviews and she's followed it up with a wonderfully informative blog post just in time for interview season:

Dear , Thank you for your 2011 phosflow paper on human HSPC cytokine responses. Hopefully I can replicate your methods. (any chance you still have a protocol? :D) Sincerely, another phd student in the

Really impressed by this "dual RNA-seq" of both host and transcripts of an in vivo infection model: never thought of removing the host RNA before lysing the TB & surprised that bead beating could both lyse TB and maintain RNA quality!

Cute cartoon abstracts highlighting some findings from 's recent report on the unsustainable culture/environment in research.

Bonus: check out this wish list from Stanford student leaders communicated directly to last year: Student leaders are burned out & need more support/recognition/compensation for spearheading initiatives that shouldn't be our responsibility.

This is a really important question that resonates with a lot of people, especially here at Stanford where community-building is hard at the graduate level and it's difficult to get buy-in from students even to engage with their own communities.

Excited to share this work with everyone!! We show that enasidenib, a drug FDA-approved for IDH2-mutant AML, drives erythroid differentiation independently of IDH2. We hope enasidenib can potentially be used to decrease transfusion dependence and anemia.

Congratulations to on this beautiful paper: some basic science that is both clinically motivated & translatable.

Finally, a shout out to some of the wonderful people in my life who have helped me on this journey (, , , , , ) and to the many new friends who have invited me into their lives since I've moved to Stanford.

Hopefully anyone who has read this far realizes that they aren't alone in feeling isolated or having trouble making friends in graduate school, or really any time we transition in adulthood.

How I have decided to maintain and build new relationships isn't translatable to everyone, because as I have stated -- everyone is a little different. Perhaps what is most important is recognizing what we need and growing out of our comfort zone a little bit.

To build new relationships, I found people who share a hobby or interest and doggedly pursued them. Who is my go to yoga buddy? Food buddy? Errand buddy? Doing activities together gave me an opportunity to then learn more about the other person and build a relationship over time.
