I'll never understand people who experience success and then let it turn into contempt for others who don't have that experience. This is how you become a person who supports the status quo and nothing ever changes.

I'm scheduled to speak at the IFTA meeting in MI in Feb. HOW COLD WILL THE TOURS BE? I am resisting the urge to impulse buy stuff. I have basic farmer gear (Artic Carhartt, etc.), unsure of how much to haul from the mid-East Coast.

i've recently become obsessed with all the insane corporate ways we say normal things to each other. "I’m a little confused" is by far my favorite - it's absolute rage masked as a professional pleasantry. what are some of your best/most insufferable work gibberish phrases?

The CFP for our ICRA 2020 workshop is out. We encourage the submission of early ideas, late-breaking results, position papers, or open research questions that are likely to generate interesting discussions.

Looking to increase interest in an upcoming Container Camp. As a researcher, what would you be most interested in learning in a 2.5 day course?

I was reading abt preprocessor directives and discovered these little macros to output line # s and file names, useful when you're trying to find out where the thing is crashing and/or debug. __LINE__ , __FILE__, __DATE__ . so easy! 2/2

C++ useful debugging tools, valgrind for finding memory leaks and other errors. valgrind --leak-check=yes ./prog-name args > out.log 2>&1 will send the output to a file -- there's a lot, you want this. ( apt install valgrind ) 1/

I don't have much to add, as a native English speaker. I did smooth my West Virginian accent over time so people can understand me. When reviewing, I encourage people not to be writing snobs; we're writing abt science, not competing for the Pulitzer:

I guess I am catching up with the current discussion of academia and English. Which is an issue. The Nature News article is good, and subtle (as well as the thread). This article is from June 2019.

My husband is trying Ubuntu after a lifetime of Windows use and I am so excited. It took me a few tries to get the partitions right for a dual boot, but I got there.

6/6: I also wrote a tutorial about getting started w/ Docker, C++, Ubuntu, OpenCV. These are the *most-visited* pages on my website (you should be writing ... tutorials abt things you know). It is from 2018, I plan to update in 2020:

4/ Impressions: Docker is more prevalent, Si-- is used where users may not have root access. This is good to know. I will mention I found some crappy docs. Read blogs. Speaking of, now, on to resources!

3/ Polls: consider blocking anyone who has `a horse in the race`, i.e., a vested interest in the outcome of the poll. This poll was 80% Docker, until Si---- RT's it to their 10.1K followers. I was not happy. It reminded me of Overleaf's behavior. (blocked)

2/ Context: use containers to transfer research results to people in same and/or diff. academic fields. This means that recognizable tools are a plus.

1/ thread: Containers for research results, twitter polls, and resources. I asked a question w/ binary choices and it was sort of a toss-up in the end. Most people just wanted to see the answer!
