So it goes. An account I was interested in regarding spreading fake information relating to Brexit - @gregory55046341 - has disappeared. So have many other accounts they followed and followed them back. Those nasty trolls have all been deleted now Brexit is done. They worked.

Here, meanwhile, is the year 2000 as imagined from the 1830s and looking suspiciously like...the 1830s.

Not a great photo but I loved this 1902 illustration "Sortie de l'Opéra en l'an 2000".

I enjoyed the cars exhibition at the V&A. It went far beyond the vehicles themselves: many interesting things to be learnt about factories, fashion and more.

Despite a bit of a bruising the other day, I remain convinced there is more good than bad on Twitter. Thanks to a thread a friend drew my attention to, I have stumbled across a book that is so useful for at least two of my current projects that I can hardly believe it exists!

I’m full of sadness today as the UK leaves the EU. I feel utterly betrayed by , and I still can’t believe that so many people hold such a narrow vision of the future. Sending love and solidarity to all who wished to . 💙🇪🇺💛

Thank you for the interesting discussion about elitism and opera. Unfortunately I have had to delete the original tweet. The volume of responses was making my Twitter feed crash. And after being shouted at for being "an elitist" myself, I've had enough for today.

I agree, however, the problem for opera is that unfamiliarity is seen (by media, politicians, anti-educationalists) as being *opera's* problem. Whereas if I go to a football match with the wrong scarf, it's my fault for not familiarising myself with their conventions.

I must confess to being slightly depressed by some of the responses. If anyone really thinks opera isn't for ordinary/working-class/non-London-based people, I implore you to read my last book, which tells the story of a time when opera was seen as for all:

Thanks for the many responses and apologies for the fact that they are too numerous for me to reply to all. For context, I am writing a book tracing the history of the idea of elitism. I am a good way on with it already but have picked up a few new angles from this conversation.
