Get outside this weekend with AMSEAS and Stony Brook Southampton for a seal watching cruise! Saturday (bit.ly/3gxlv9g ) and Sunday (bit.ly/3sndM30), sailing at 11am.
For this week of Sound Sundays, we are spotlighting the students of Smithtown High School West who monitored and decorated storm drains to bring awareness to the importance of water quality and pollution issues. We are so impressed with these student’s research and commitment!

One of our Summer 2021 interns, Aneesh Deshpande of Rocky Point High School, wanted to investigate the effects of microplastics on respiration rates in ghost shrimp and crayfish. We loved having Aneesh as an intern and seeing his passion for marine conservation grow!
2
Northport High School’s Ryan Pupilla and Thomas Serra took a creative approach to monitor storm drains by using a miniature remote-controlled boat and GoPro. The use of creativity in their research is yet another inspiring attribute of these citizen scientists.

Brentwood High School’s Joshua Castellanos’ project from the Long Island High School Summit focused on studying the impact of nitrogen, a common ingredient in plant food, on the local salt marsh grass Spartina alterniflora. Conservation starts with you!
