'What threatens women’s elite sport is not trans women, but rather misogyny in the form of underfunding, non-parity in participation and leadership, inequitable sport access, and a range of sporting opportunities not afforded to women in equitable ways' bit.ly/3De9Ojo

1/3 I got hit by a car yesterday. Driver sped through an intersection and turned in front of me. I had green. I was in a bike lane. And yes, I was wearing a helmet and had lights. I didn’t have much time to react.

Hi my name is Anne-Marije and I make questionable life choices. At 3 p.m. CDT I'll be tackling the Unbound XL. 352 daunting miles of gravel and thunderstorms await. Why? Because I thought it would make a good story? IDK really. Wish me luck!

4/3 This is distracted, irresponsible driving. This is failing infrastructure. This is preventable. It’s not luck and not an “accident” either.

3/3 I “got lucky,” they say. “It could have been worse,” they say. And quite frankly it pisses me off. Just a few days ago, I wrote a story about a 17-year-old kid who lost his life on a training ride. I know it could have been worse. But this isn’t luck.

2/3 I’m writing this from the hospital. I have four fractures — one on my chest and three posterior ribs. I have blood and fluids in my chest, and a punctured and collapsed lung. A pretty big headache to boot. I have no idea what state my bike is in yet 😩.

I sold my gravel bike last week to a woman in her fifties who hadn't bought a new bike in 15-20 years. Today, her husband sent me a text and photos of the woman loving her new ride. So. Darn. Cute.

I just got hit by a car and fucker sped off. He turned wildly and into the bike lane, hitting me from behind. I never saw it coming. He braked at first but when he realized what he had hit he sped off like crazy. Who does that?! I’m ok. Sore and royally pissed off but fine.

For the record, I'm not trying to impose some kind of agenda or convince readers one way or another. This is, however, a noteworthy study and if this topic is of interest to you, I'd recommend you read the whole 86-page report (as I have).

In 2015 PFP already became the 1st person ever – in the history of cycling – to simultaneously hold the road, cx and xc world champion titles. The addition of her titles in short track, marathon and now gravel may make her the most well-rounded world champion ever.

I came home to a Christmas surprise this morning. While I was away, my bae gave my workshop a makeover with a new workbench, pegboard and new wrenches. That has got to be true love. 😍

Upon confirming her win, Annemiek looked into the camera, pointed to her earrings and shouted “mom!!!” The earrings were a gift from her late father and serve as a good luck charm. #Tokyo2020

Night groad. I love night riding in the woods. I just wish I didn’t get creeped out about being a woman alone in the woods at night. Men, do you get nervous at all?

Thanks everyone for the response and messages. Race organizers, if you’re following this, yes, I would gladly commentate on your next race. So let’s chat! I do have an accent, but at least I’ll try not to be sexist and can pronounce most of the names correctly...

Sooo how about having more female commentators at women’s races, eh?

As a former elite athlete, I believe that: - Sports are an invaluable joy. Everyone deserves a chance to play - Fairness of competition should be determined by the athletes that are currently competing - No human being deserves to be subjected to verbal & online abuse and hatred

I can’t believe I’m willing to admit this but after demoing an e-bike for about a week, I came to the realization today that I would actually consider selling my motorcycle to buy an e-bike at some point. 🤯

On the top of the Super Planche, there was a host of people whose sole job it was to catch the riders as they came across the line and prevent them from falling off their bikes. #tdff

Finally home after a couple long weeks in Europe. I am so stoked I got to be on site for the first women’s Tour de France in 33 years and tell you all the stories. History was made and I’m grateful I was there to witness it. 📸: @jeffclarkphotographs

Was window shopping for a gravel bike today and came across the $4200 Allied frameset. $4.2k for the frameset alone!!! That’s insane. Industry, we have a problem.

My bags are packed, the routes are loaded, and my #eTapAXS batteries are charged. Off to Idaho I go! Tomorrow morning I’ll set off on a journey across Oregon (—wild fires permitting—) to visit my folks in Idaho. Door to door it’s some 550 miles with 28K+ of vert.

I broke all the social distancing rules today when I stopped to help a brand new biker fix a flat. But karma will prevent me from getting COVID from her, right?

Pro tip: always carry cash when riding farm roads. There are roadside stands selling fruit, eggs, flowers and, today’s find, corn! 🌽

Fellow women bike racers, past and current, what’s the weirdest “prize” you’ve ever received upon winning, or podiuming at, a bike race? I’ll go first: a breast pump. 🤦‍♀️ For real.

A random stranger bought me a cup of coffee today. We never spoke, never even made eye contact but when I got ready to pay, the barista said my coffee had already been paid for by the man in front of me. The universe knew I needed a sign of humanity and it delivered 🙏

Dear bike industry, I need an inner tube sponsor. Not because I’m a racer or influencer but because I live along a very popular bike route and friends keep stopping by when they flat.

Me: this is probably my weirdest birthday yet. My mom: I don’t know...it snowed and then the hospital was on fire when I gave birth to you...so there’s that... What?! 33 birthdays and I had never been told that story.

Learning how to use flat pedals. Bitched about it the whole ride. I just don’t get it. They’re less efficient and I lose my footing on just about every jump.

If there's one thing I have learned from the thousands of messages I've received in the past week re: studies about trans athletes in sport, is that NO ONE ACTUALLY READS THE DAMN ARTICLES. Analytics tell me that barely a 10th of y'all actually clicked and read the articles.

On my first flight I sat next to a talker. When he asked, and learned, about what I do for a living, he gave me his opinion on Lance “Anderson” 😂😂

This time last year, I introduced my parents to e-biking. They bought a set of bikes two weeks later and have been biking multiple times a week ever since. They even go on bike vacations now. My job here is done!

Brought along a special guest to pick up my four-year-old nephew from pre-school. Teacher: “am I seeing this right? Do you have a dog in a backpack?” Yes ma’am, I sure do!
