It's quite possible it has an infection of parasitic trematode worms. These cause dragonflies to lose their escape response, which leads to them being eaten by birds. The worms infect birds, lay eggs that are excreted into water, and then infect dragonflies. Round 'n round.

Yikes. And I thought I had it bad with malarial mosquitoes in PNG! You’d need a blood transfusion after something that size landed on you!!

Mayflies (as adults) live around 24-48 hours. Dragonflies as adults can live for months and some long enough to even migrate!
