He has a point. Foreskin is a port of entry for HIV. There is a consensus that circumcision can reduce the risk of HIV transmission. There are some scientists who'd argue against propagating such a message since it doesn't offer 100% protection.

Of course we agree that there is 60% elimination of this BIOLOGICAL risk factor in MALE. We agree that fore skin cut eliminates the langerhan cells responsible for immune activation (CD4 Receptor cells activation) during HIV entry. This we agree.

What I disagree is the blanket IEC that circumcision prevents HIV infection. It doesn't. It only REDUCES RISK. Also, the packaging of IEC materials around circumcision is wrong. Don't you think women will think circumcised men can't transmit the virus to them?

It is not true and that's why we continue to see increased infections in A& YP despite them being circumcised.

The IEC should be specific that Circumcision only REDUCES the risk of transmission from FEMALE to MALE and not the other way round. The IEC should insist on condom use, PEP, PREP and TasP despite circumcision.
