I drove by the T-mobile rally on my way to do a “know your rights” talk at a family shelter about what to do when landlords deny you housing. I saw more folks at that rally than ever show up when we fight against displacement, when we fight for more affordable housing. 2/

Over 40,000 have signed the petition for
#DontMuteDC. About 1300 people signed the#StopDCGDemo petition for families at DC General, when@MayorBowser was exposing them to lead and asbestos just so she could develop that land faster. 3/Show this thread -
@MayorBowser is tweeting her support for go-go. Meanwhile, she clears homeless encampments, displacing the displaced, and does not put one dime towards fixing public housing, one of the few places left that poor people can afford to live in DC. 4/Show this thread -
Councilmembers are falling all over themselves to show their support for go-go, but will they stand with the people who listen to go-go, or just support that one dude left on Florida, that island in a sea of gentrification? 5/

The heart and soul of DC are the people (let’s keep the music too tho). Your reps have a budget proposal from
@MayorBowser that does little to reduce DC’s racial income inequality or ensure that low-income residents have a place to call home. What will they do about that? 6/Show this thread -
I guess I'm saying, we should be mad, we should be organized, but we need to target the root causes of
#Don'tMuteDC. Watch this, and tell your elected leaders they need to do better: https://youtu.be/y1chLaNUn20#PutPeopleFirst#HousingIsJusticeShow this thread

Organizers are failing to craft the issues in resonate or proactive ways. Why so many events about "how to handle" situations? Where's the rally on banning higher taxes on long-term residents, creating resident ownership of how neighborhood decisions are handled, etc?

It isn't the fault of ppl for "not showing up." The events are mostly bandaids told in confusing language that we don't get.
