Thread: Today I did my quarterly registration and this is the quarter where I have to pay for the privilege To which I have a few things to say, starting with this recent comment, in Amicus, from the Attorney General who would ostensibly prosecute me for failure to register

Let’s take “chance” out of . Fairness, equality, & safety matters for every person. It must not be by chance but by design.

The parole system "should focus on helping people access services, seek jobs or build their career, not create a threat that hangs over their heads & makes success a challenge," says A Little Piece of Light member, KiKi Dunston -- and she's right. Pass NOW.

“NY has righted wrong of excessive bail to ensure that rich and poor defendants alike have equal protections under the law. Critics seek to paint these efforts as dangerous but implementing basic tenets of the Constitution should not be a new concept.”

Registry proponents hear this- when the struggle for liberation is over, & REAL efforts to end intimate violence are mainstream, you will be held accountable for the views you hold today. Just as politicians today are being called on the carpet for their role in the war on drugs.

I want EVERY prosecutor and policy maker to hear and understand when she argues that registries are contrary to public safety. Perpetuating them is jeopardizing the safety of ALL citizens.

The power of organizing is in its ability to provide the space for the collective to demand what otherwise would be ignored or untended

Another very important thing to highlight in these briefs (h/t ) is the following passage from the introductory section of the brief. It's remarkable at an attorney general would take this stance on public safety -- but it should be the standard.

At some point we must reckon with these two facts. 1) 95-97% of cases end in plea deals due to power imbalance and coercion. 2) Most sentences are disproportionate and include LIFELONG consequences, direct or “collateral”. Do better, America.

Public registration is harmful to families. Sometimes children of those affected don’t even share ridicule they experience at the hands of others, as to spare a registrant from more harm. This is not a burden children should bear for failed policies. Shame on you America.

Please legislators, just keep creating more registries. When every person in America is on one then perhaps people may decide that they are harmful. - TWITTER please understand my extreme sarcasm here.

Sadly, as I understand it, now 14 people have perished in Mississippi Prisons in a little over a month. This is happening in OUR NAME...we can't suspend people's rights and magically wash the blood off of our hands

1/2 way through reading Dana Nessel’s brief explaining why registries are punitive & ineffective and in-person registration is particularly horrific when some familiar names pop up : Dubin and !
