Related, I find it troubling that a group of men who sees themselves as the future looks at the world through a 1980s lens, more or less Revenge of the Nerds on steroids. As if we hadn’t evolved beyond Stans and Betties and the idea that if a nerd rapes a Betty it’s justified.

As someone who grew up a male nerd, well before Marvel Studios and Peter Jackson made it cool, I am regularly blown by the gatekeeping attitudes of these assholes. How psyched would I have been, to be approached by a girl in my high school asking me to play in her D&D campaign?

I'd love to read this. Or just talk about it. Being firmly enmeshed in "nerd society" I've seen a lot of this and it's bad and it's infectious and i can't even say I'm free of it, though I'd like to think so.
