I don’t remember if my ex husband said directly that I couldn’t leave and couldn’t make it without him, but that was his message. 12 years later and the kids and I are succeeding and happy. He is alone. Yeah.

6th grade. I was 54 at the time and wanted to finally get through it.
I was raised to believe that women could not be independent of men, that we must always be financially dependent on them, that we paid for that with our bodies. I rejected that and have lived why life w/o men, pretty much.
I was told by every editor friend that there was "no way" I could put together a 480 page anthology with over 100 creators in less than 5 months. That I was "stupid to even try it." a year later, I won the Eisner & Harvey awards & got nommed for the British Fantasy Award.
Everything I do is out of spite.

Got married and had kids. Every step of the way everyone said we should wait or weren’t doing the right thing, but 13 years later, we’re a very happy little queer family.
