Mary Grant Seacole—considered the first black nurse practitioner. She acquired knowledge of herbal medicine in the Caribbean. When the Crimean War broke out, she was one of two outstanding nurses that cared for the wounded. We know the other nurse to be Florence Nightingale.

Sanitary pads were developed by a Black woman named Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner of Monroe, NC. The first company that showed interest rejected it because of racial discrimination. It was later accepted in 1956, 30 years later. Mary received five patents.

Rush Limbaugh's most infamous act was calling a young grad student a slut for testifying in favor of contraceptive coverage. A terrible diagnosis does not erase a lifetime of racism, homophobia and misogyny. A sick man deserves healthcare; a bigot does not a medal of honor.

  16. Acceptable to provide a billeted list of items to include? This is more than a little frustrating. Especially since the less senior mentors are writing their own.

  19. These letters are only 1 page max. A separate mentor sent me his draft letter and said edit in any way & send back. THAT is how it should be!

  20. 3 sep folks have asked me to write THEIR letters of rec for my internal grant/funding. 1 is a nom letter, 2 others are mentor letters of support. How do I write from 3 different voices while also writing a 2pg career devel plan, 2pg mentorship plan & 6pg research plan??
