If this is treated as a 50/50 "both sides" issue - if the door is left open even a crack to lend credence to this lunacy, a lot of violence is going to happen and a lot of votes are not going to be counted. These are the most important decisions news directors will ever make.

We need to move away from saying “election day/night”. Sure, it’s punchy and more marketable for media outlets. But if the terms “last day of voting” or “the end of the voting period” were widely adopted it’d recalibrate expectations re: when we should expect to know results.

The Electoral College votes on December 14. States have until December 8 to complete vote counts ("all disputes resolved.") These dates are set in Federal law. The worst aspect of the Trump presidency is the assertion that the Constitution and laws of the US can be ignored.
