Really excited to share my paper “Challenging the sponsor-proxy model: the Iran–Hizbullah relationship.” Using IR theories, I not only show that Hizbullah isn’t an Iranian proxy, but that it’s a regional subpower. DM me for a copy if you dont have access

US "peace" plans aim to subvert the Palestinian understanding of reality and reason. The logic is, if you continuously offer fewer crumbs, a Palestinian state will seem detached from reality and irrational. The unintended effect is that resistance becomes the only viable option

My student deleted his Twitter account upon submitting an article to a western academic journal. Colleagues' articles are rejected & declared propaganda for being sympathetic to Iran. All are encouraged to silence to avoid visa rejections (or worse) for conferences & sabbaticals.

IMPORTANT: So the CBP lied when they said there was no directive to profile people at the border. Looks like there is indeed a directive asking officers to profile people based on their national origin (Iranian, Lebanese, Palestinian) and their religion and sect (Shia).

The US isn't a mediator between Palestinians and Israelis, when it isn't a third party, let alone a neutral one, nor is it seeking to resolve the conflict. The US is a self-interested first party that isn't negotiating with anyone, but trying to force a Palestinian surrender

All mainstream media have referred to Trump’s declared intent to violate international law as a *peace plan* without the need for scare quotes or qualification, but the Palestinians’ pursuit of their right to self-determination is always qualified as “resistance” in scare quotes

The international community—including the donors and donor agencies—have been a huge part of the economic and financial problem in Lebanon. They also should be held accountable.

Lebanon got its first female Defense Minister (and Deputy PM) yesterday and the misogynistic commentary from all across the region couldn’t be more revolting. But the question remains: who cares who’s heading Defense, male or female? The whole world knows who’s defending Lebanon.

Hizbullah's supporters are fed up with its allies who are shamelessly jockeying for cabinet seats in the midst of an existential economic crisis, while the party scrambles to reconcile their demands. Its allies have destroyed whatever crumbs of legitimacy this govt hoped to enjoy

Lebanon’s Prime Minister claims he is “nobody’s employee”. Perhaps his western backers could explain to him that in liberal democracies prime ministers are public servants—government employees who owe their positions and salaries to the taxpaying public. Period.

Is UNSCOL going to condemn police brutality against protestors like my colleague’s son, who was almost beaten to death & suffered brain damage for protesting the detentions of so called “infiltrators”, or are those rights reserved for the banks it staunchly defends?

US troops at Iraq's al-Asad base filed into Saddam-era bunkers in the hrs before the barrage of Iranian ballistic missiles. It was their best bet at protecting themselves from an attack like no other. Our report from al-Asad w/ and Brice Laine

Carnegie now uses MbS as empirical evidence. This former colleague of mine from my Carnegie days, uses a Saudi-funded media report— based on anonymous sources—to incite a mass uprising in Iran, in the hope that it would overshadow the 6 or 7 million Iranians who mourned Soleimani

This takes Donald Rumsfeld’s infamous ‘unknown unknowns’ statement to the next level - and of course the reason they transparently don’t know anything is because it isn’t true.

The *risk* is Iran developing nuclear deterrence, not the US trying to starve 80 million Iranians into submission

When Trump describes Soleimani as "the world's top terrorist" and US media suggests the same, the tens of millions of Iranian, Iraqi, Lebanese, and other Shia who mourned him are effectively criminalized as "terrorist sympathizers" who, by extension, deserve a similar fate

I’m not an Iran expert. But I am a military analyst. When I see the impact points of Iran’s strike on Asad air base, I don’t see purely symbolic strikes designed to avoid casualties, as some have speculated. The strikes appear to target the base’s military capability.

Regardless of the veracity of the US claims and Iranian counter claims, what matters is that Iran isn’t acting like a state that is “backing down”, especially knowing how someone as unhinged as Trump could react
