I literally just discovered this today. As someone who creates a new layer, immediately forgets about it, then creates another one, and ends up with a blank layer graveyard, THANK. I'm mostly mad I've somehow missed this was an option all these years.pic.twitter.com/GTl7IZu0XH

No prob! I too felt it had to exist, googled looking for a downloadable extension, and felt the fool when the first result was 'File > Scripts > Delete All Empty Layers' hahaha.

It's not all the time, but I have for sure gone back through a painting and been like "is anything even ON this layer?" *clicks on and off a million times while squinting at the image to see any changes*
