Ahhh, so glad I can finally share this! The incredible and I are doing a graphic novel together, with !! This is truly a dream come true! 😭 Thank you to and !! ❤️

Tiara Kittrell at HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray has acquired, at auction, in a six-figure, two-book deal, world English rights to Reject Squad by Alyssa Cole, illustrated by ONeill Jones. In this Sleeping Beauty-inspired YA fantasy romance graphic novel, a perfectionist princess powered by rage is hexed, placing her kingdom and her life in jeopardy, unless her newfound friends (the magical hot messes of the Reject Squad)—and the irritating boy she's betrothed to—can help her save herself. Publication is set for 2024; Lucienne Diver at the Knight Agency represented the author, and Claire Draper at the Bent Agency represented the illustrator.

  3. Republicans lost presidential and senatorial elections in Georgia so they changed the rules to make it harder for black people to vote. It’s no more complicated than that. The law doesn’t make it harder to cheat; it is a form of cheating, a word that understates the malice of it.

I will add that as someone who's been expending massive energy fighting racism in publishing for almost a decade, it was validating to have even basic/flawed data about structural racism in my workplace. I hope a variety of diversity reports result from this conversation.

I'll also add that it's fine if you disagree with me, people in a community don't agree on every issue. These are just my thoughts on what I keep seeing on my TL.

I'm not at all invalidating the follow up, but I'm still confused about the amount of energy being spent on this topic when "It's right but not rigorous" would suffice. And when I say I'm confused, I'm not being cute. It's actually distressing me because I don't understand.

It has been an extremely upsetting day seeing people invalidate what we all know is true seemingly because of data presentation (and I will be clear I know nothing about data presentation, I only know my lived experience as a Black trad pub author).

Critique is bound to happen when anyone does anything--that's great. But I'm extremely confused by the argument that because that information didn't meet certain statistical criteria it's invalid and harmful. Publishing paid me, for example, was all anecdotal and yet was useful.

So now I guess I'll talk about the diversity report. Trad publishers: publish very few authors of color. Diversity report: says trad pubs publish very few authors of colors and offers a not 100% accurate accounting of that.
