Father’s Day is always a contentious day for me. And my family being “weird” has always been a bit of a thorn in my ability to connect with other people. A story.

I was raised by my step father since I was around 2-4 years old. His family took me and my brother in as their own. My aunt (on his side) is the one who brought home the first computer I had when I was 12. It was a 386 in 1995.

My “real” father, he’s a shit stain on what it means to be a father. He’s also just a really shit human being. I haven’t seen nor heard from him in 20 years.

My “dad” died a few years ago. It didn’t mean much to me because he was not in my life much. He found a new family to abuse.

I asked my husband today if I missed out on not having a dad for my whole life. I thought he’d give me some insight because he has both parents still. But I am so grateful for my mom because she has been both mom and dad to me
