I heard the phrase “opening the kimono” used at work again today and said something. I laughed it off but said, “yikes, that sounds pervy”. Everyone present agreed with me.

I doubt it’s just me that when hearing that phrase sees imagery of an Asian woman in a kimono, showing her body. Others say it’s about a male samurai’s kimono being opened.

Whatever. I’m grossed out by the phrase, especially when used in business conversations- and maybe I’m alone, but I doubt it.

I’ve never heard that phrase but if it’s about a men’s or women’s kimono it’s still being opened… and it does bring up an image
