i made the worst USB Mass Storage device in existence. it has precisely one read-only sector, and, well,pic.twitter.com/nkS5TXdZtk

i plugged it into a Windows machine and it doesn't work because Windows is trying to read 16 sectors from my 1 sector long device. my device validates requests properly and tells Windows to go pound sand, which it silently ignores. of course.

You could also have a device which returns different data for subsequent reads of the same block and look for TOCTOU bugs/crashes in... everywhere, right? Drivers, userspace daemons, bootloaders. Also now that you have SCSI you're closer to UFS

oh man double-fetch fuzzing filesystems sounds fun; also there was that poc||gtfo article about classifying read patterns to determine what kind of code it was being read by and then erasing the whole thing if it was being just dd’d out, for anti-forensics purposes :3

This topic pops up in security-related discussions from time to time. One of the most recent public posts is from Project Zero. https://googleprojectzero.blogspot.com/2018/09/oatmeal-on-universal-cereal-bus.html?m=1 … At least for complex code like file systems this might get you somewhere.
