I did it. I gave a workshop at CERN and I didn't die! We did breathing, yoga, free writing, tarot exercises, branching narratives, meaningful choices & procedural generation! I referenced the work of @framebunker & more.

What is described below is exactly what LAIKA does *not* do. It won't provide a perfectly formulated but derivative first draft. You, the writer, have to do the creative work and bring the idea. But you will get juicy inspiration that's never bland.

I really love these creative sessions - it feels like we are making an entirely new form of creative entertainment: "discovering" a story through our human pattern recognition brains. Feels like magic making connections & iterating, iterating, iterating 🪄

Happy with my outfit today - mixing a silk dress from a flea market with my Dad’s university sweatshirt from 1970 with my Infant of Prague tote from my bro - been in leggings for months so I guess the astrology has changed or something cos I’m BACK baby

I love this account of the “invincible summer” of the human spirit - making life worth living in the only moment we really have: this moment, here & now ❤️

After I was convicted of murder and sentenced to 26 years in prison, when the earth dropped out from beneath me, and global shame rained down on top of me, I had my first ever epiphany. /thread

IT'S OUT IT'S OUT IT'S OUT! I'm so incredibly proud of this novella; I can't wait for you to read it. It's about four generations of a neurodivergent family trying to solve the mystery of the "curse" that keeps making their relatives disappear. Enjoy ❤️

Goodness me, I had SUCH a good time making a flash fiction with today! Constraint of 300 words & we worked with: Algernon Blackwood, Marcus Aurelius, Mary Shelley, William Hope Hodgson, Lewis Carroll, Aleister Crowley & a few anonymous user-submitted brains. ♥️

Breaking 🚨 None of the OpenAI services including ChatGPT, GPT-3 playground and API is serviceable at the moment. 1000s of apps built on top of OpenAI API are down. High time to avoid reliance on a single platform, big opportunity for companies like Cohere, Anthropic & OneAI

We're not a skin for GPT-3. We're not interested in productivity or replacing writers. ✔️ We make personalised writing partners with the goal of empowering individual writers.

AI no more heralds the death of great writing than the invention of the typewriter did. 🫣 Nothing to fear here but fear itself. 👁️👁️ Pull your gaze back. Expand your view! Look at human creative endeavour with a cosmic eye!

That will still be there, in some new form IN ADDITION to books and magazines and blogs and so on. 🗽 A new form that YOU get to help shape and decide! 🪂 Look to the empty space on the horizon and wonder how YOU can fill it! There is so much potential!

Perhaps if your dream is to get an advance and be published in hardback by a particular publisher... that might be tough in the next few years. 📚 But if your dream as a writer is to write and to share your words and resonate with the souls of others?

People are up-in-arms about an online SF magazine temporarily closing submissions due to AI. I've seen the word "crisis" used multiple times. Is it really a crisis? 🤔 30 years ago we didn't have online magazines. 30 years from now... will it be a crisis if we read differently??

Even apart from things like grammar & structure - there's so much that writing with AI can help writers with! 💏 Partner to bounce ideas off 🦕 Serendipity & synchronicity 🧶 Exercise for our human pattern recognition machine 🔮 Portal to our collective unconscious.

QUALITY 🗑️ I see a lot of my peers denigrating anything made with (the assistance of) AI as "AI trash" or "AI garbage" etc. The dismissal of it all... like oil painters saying a photograph can never be art. Like the endless "are video games art?" rolling discourse.

🧞‍♂️ But the genie won't go back into the lamp. So it's time to update our hopes, our dreams, our expectations for our writing & how we'll make it and share it with the world. We can re-frame FEAR to CURIOSITY. What can I do with AI? What new possibilities does AI open up for ME?

FEAR I had a great chat with which helped me see there is a lot of AI fear out there in writing communities. I understand the fear! It's scary to work towards things that mean something to us (like publication) when you feel you're standing on shifting sands.

B.R. Yeager’s debut story collection, BURN YOU THE FUCK ALIVE, is coming very soon. It’s an all-timer by any measure, but easily one of my favorite horror books of the last decade, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. Keep your eyes peeled!!

🔥 Hot debut 🔥 The blank page can be a fearsome enemy. Writer, teacher and experimenter knows this all too well. But we don’t have to approach it with too much seriousness — there’s never been a more exciting time to play with words.

when you think about it it's actually pretty insane how we teach kids/ppl science as "this is how things work" instead of "this is how we currently *think* things work" & focusing on the history and evolution of science too
