Once a blue moon I wonder whether we could've made a quicker transition to ECS than building out a platform on Kubernetes. Things have changed over the past 6 months in the biz that mean k8s was probably the right choice but that ECS path could've been super interesting!

Built out another service on ECS and I'm starting to warm to it as a service. There's still the byzantine networking plus IAM permissions to fight through but once it's there, it just goes and is a hell of a lot cleaner than maintaining EC2.

Most important part here. Solidarity to all the healthcare workers in England. Hopefully this spurs something more than 1%

Any time someone suggests adding in 'a simple redirect' I recoil at the addition of _more_ DNS. It's just going to break or confuse so why do it?

The internet was created by (adult) physicists to actually share and advance science. Cryptocurrencies are a bunch of Ayn Rand fanboys jerking each other off while performing an increasingly bizarre cargo cult speed run of history's worst financial disasters.

It is 1 year since the first lockdown. From locking down too late, to PPE shortages, to not lifting Sick Pay, to failing to fix Track and Trace, to not giving mental health services the funding needed, to not rewarding NHS staff with a decent pay rise, the Tories have failed us.

Make a list of the workers facing attacks on their terms and conditions today: binmen, carers, bus drivers, British Gas engineers. The very people who were out during the first lockdown putting their lives on the line. "Key workers"? Our elites never believed a word of it.

Completely agree with this summation from - lessons must be learned by SG about the handling of sexual harassment by men in power but the Tories have done nothing but show their true colours throughout this entire process.

Nothing more satisfying than finding a Kindle book you are hyped for and realising past-you already pre-ordered it and it's already there ready to read. This time it's the next Avatar: The Last Airbender comic

Now working in a team where we support users who are engineers in the company, it is wild how often they think it's the entire system that is failing rather than a typo of their own doing bringing everything down.

Yep, the ergonomics of Java scared me off. Until I had tried things like C# with its excellent intellisense and Typescript, I hadn’t seen the light.

This underscores the brazen mendacity and moral vacuum of the people who labelled Corbyn a ‘Stalinist’. They said those things not because they believed them but because Corbyn genuinely did politics differently & democratically.

Churchill was simultaneously a major force in the defeat of Hitler, and a racist with the blood of millions on his hands (the 1943 Bengal famine). As this excellent article says, "even his contemporaries found his views on race shocking": .
