New blog which shows what can happen when we are vulnerable & trying to negotiate disconnected services. What can happen when we fall through the gaps can be dangerous if not life threatening.

Am likely not to survive this so letting people know. My Go Fund Me which has helped me to survive, fund my work, pay my cat insurance etc has been reported as fraud. I am therefore going to go under. I had NO idea accepting help was going to do this.

Doubt professionals will ever really start valuing lived experience until organisations put their money where their mouth is and start paying at same rates as professionals.

A 2 or 3 year degree/diploma, arguably doesn't give more any more useful knowledge or insight than lived experience. In fact, it may fill professionals heads with poor quality research information (like the ME trials) and socialise them into harmful & prejudiced attitudes.

Just to clarify - a RMN course may give different information that is very useful, but overall it is no more useful, just useful in a different way.

Pains me, they are so discriminated against; homelessness is not classified as vulnerable by LAs and getting any diagnosis for learning disability or any continuity of care while on the street is virtually impossible.

Absolutely! We tell our stories with our bodies; with our behaviour; with all kinds of things as well as our words. There's a tendency to expect people w lived experience to *keep* telling the story again and again - and not enough real attention to what they have said already.

Exactly. Lived Experience roles are not similar to support worker roles. They are far more complex and require far more emotional labour and navigation of much more complicated professional dynamics.

Medical school is lacking patients. If medical schools included patients in developing the curriculum and as teachers, medical school could really teach compassion and skills that current lectures fall short on.

It amazes me how some people with mental health issues know all the types of psych meds & can rattle off their REALLY COMPLICATED names like doctors/psychiatrists. Also scary when I say I don't believe in meds for stress disorders - most get very angry & defensive

I was studying law at Victoria university before I was raped (was a single mum of 2 kids age 38) I tried to return but couldn't because of my 'mental injury' & grossly inadequate support & health care I am entitled to by law. I contined to study law & expert in that too.

Ive been told I am not a 'real service user'. Its really horrid cos I dont want to have to justify my experiences to feel like my contribution is valid. And also HATE what it insinuates about service users.
