I've been reading about machine learning this week and orthogonality may be related to the concept of "capacity"

the complexity of the problem determines the ideal capacity and therefore complexity of the solver
so the optimal "capabilities" depend on the problem ("goals") - the two are very entangled and not orthogonal at all
