I try to not use it, the main author has a track record of bad design choices (implementing his own SUID mount helper, with predictable results: bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/8, and "I am perfectly capable of maintaining python 2 myself": bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/1)

fbreader (though basically abandonware on desktop linux) is great for epub and mobi, but I have to use calibre for azw3 so I'm not able to get rid of it completely
