Using thread readers on my tweets will get you blocked. You do not get to invite someone else to make money off my tweets. That's not acceptable. Stop using thread readers, period. Stop helping businesses steal from people.

Here's that unrolled thread, btw. There's ads inserted into the middle of it and an ad banner that stays with you the whole time you scroll. Do I get the ad revenue? No. Does threadreaderapp ask for more money on top of that? Yes, they do. This is shady business. Be better.pic.twitter.com/sR7ZPwulnq

AND threadreaderapp also keeps an archive of all the threads you've ever made that they've unrolled. So they can make money off them indefinitely. I never consented to this. If I was the one unrolling my tweets then fine, read them. But without my active agreement, it's theft.pic.twitter.com/i3PUp4q3CL

The fact that they credit the tweeter with the content doesn't make it ok. Ask people if they like being paid for work with exposure. They don't. Threadreaderapp isn't funnelling readers to the tweeter. They want you to follow THEM for more of my content.pic.twitter.com/erX8IyqB0P

I fully understand that tweets can be hard to read. If you would like to read my tweets in a longform format, send me a message. I have a blog. I can put some of them up there. (Depending on my own time & energy levels) Then nobody is profiting off them without my consent.

And before more of you reply with "you can ask them to block you", I know. What do you think I did before I blocked them on twitter? They run multiple accounts to help them get around this.

"but alison, you don't make money off your twitter, so why does it matter?" It matters because so many people DO make money off their social media accounts. When you unroll threads you are stealing their audience and their twitter engagement counts and somebody else profits.

I can literally spend a day on threadreaderapp reading content they've mined from other people and never see those people's twitter profiles. That means none of my reading makes its way into their engagement statistics and nothing reaches them. No likes. No retweets. Nothing.

Why this frustrating is that *I* am not agreeing to people profiting off of my content here; it is being inflicted on me. (this is the same problem people have with tweets turned into news stories, btw) Sure, twitter makes ad revenue. But I agreed to their terms & conditions.

If I put my tweets (or whatever other content I created) on my own blog? Then who cares?! I agreed to those terms and commitments and I would get a portion of the ad revenue from it. Have you ever been plagiarized? I have. It sucks. This is another, lazier form of plagiarism.

Sure, at least my name is on it, while my name didn't make it into the postmedia article that someone copied from my tweets (yes, I remember). But NOTHING kicks back to me. The ad revenue doesn't come to me. There aren't links to my twitter. My stats don't change. Nothing.

Which accounts should you send "BLOCK ME" messages to, to stop people from unrolling your threads? Here's a start. Threadreaderapp D2unroll Unrollhelper Pdfmakerapp - this one also takes conversations from multiple accounts I don't think this is the only team in the sandbox.pic.twitter.com/YdqpnYxG9u
