A relatively easy but overlooked way to decompress and spoil yourself: Take Wednesday off. And then do something you wouldn’t normally do. Spas are generally not busy mid-week. Same with brunch at that nice place that always has a line on weekends. Take next Wednesday off.

Most likely, we will all slip into and out of these roles throughout our careers. Make sure you recognize your drivers and motivations and those of the folks around you. By doing so, we can be kinder to ourselves and the people we work with.

3/ Support-driven This type find fulfillment when serving others and helping them grow. Typically called "mentors" or "cheerleaders". When experienced in a subject, they want to "give back". If you're managing them, involve them in hiring/mentoring/community activities.

2/ Intellect-driven These love geeking out on processes and ideas. Typically called "thinkers", "cerebral" or "visionary". They can build influence and a strategic place at the table. When managing them, make sure they are paired with doers + give them time AND deadlines!

1/ Craft-driven Focused on gaining technical skills. Typically called "builders" or "doers". Early in your career, this is likely what you should care most about. If you manage this person, give them clear goals, technical challenges, dev opportunities, and lots of feedback!
