We're hiring 1 junior engineer at ! DMs open. If you've looked for a job, you know what a slog it is. We're rethinking hiring & believe that people should be judged on ability, not degrees. Oh, and we're lovely & have a corgi named Lady Doggington.

Tell you what, you can talk about breaking up Amazon after you figure out how to code an app that counts stuff without unleashing total mayhem on the democratic process

Basically, in California, "chat" can mean anything from "catch up casually" to "come to court prepared to litigate"

Years ago, when I was but a wee founder, a VC invited me to chat. I took it literally, showed up ready to chit-chat and woefully unprepared to pitch... which is what "chat" actually means. Risking embarrassment in case this tweet helps someone else not look dumb.

I'm always so impressed and grateful with those users who are brave enough to share their failed interviews.🙌

I just discovered this book (h/t ) after bitching on Twitter about how bootcamps should teach big O. It's lovely. If you're a junior engineer who's scared of "algorithmic interviews" or "big O notation", check it out. It's not scary.

The idea that bootcamp grads have to apply to hundreds of places on their own, have one reply, and then fail the technical interview bc their bootcamp never taught them that skill is appalling

Hot take: Bootcamps should STOP wasting time on resume reviews. No one cares. Employers see bootcamp and go "NOPE". That time should be redirected to 1) forming real rships w/ employers so resumes aren't necessary and 2) teaching big O & practicing technical interviews

Examples of algorithmic interviews: - Reverse a string - Find the min/max integer in a list - Figure out if a substring exists in a string Then analyze time and space complexity. Then optimize your code if possible. These are things junior engineers should be able to do 3/3

Conflating algorithmic interviews with bad questions is bad. An algorithmic interview simply means writing some code to solve a problem, analyzing your solution's efficiency in time and space, and then optimizing it... 2/n

After some discussion on the Twitters, it's becoming clear to me that the term "algorithmic interview" is synonymous with memorizing data structures or memorizing optimal solutions for niche problems. Thread...

I’m shocked when junior engineers refuse algorithmic interviews. Yes, there are many bad, academic questions. But an engineer refusing to prove they can analyze the time & space complexity of code is appalling. It’s like hiring a bookseller who refuses to learn the alphabet.

I get a lot of emails from prospective career changers asking for advice about breaking into software engineering. Many are considering bootcamps, and most are woefully naive about how hard it is to get a job afterwards. So I wrote something to help.

Brilliant! Though the problem with new grads is that most haven't done anything and have the same 3 class projects. That and resumes have been shown to not predict on-the-job success. Everyone in the eng world should just use and be done with it amirite.

What's one thing you wish VCs knew about your space but don't? In my case, it's that technical interviewing is hard & not the stuff you do at work every day... and that practice is something engineers DEFINITELY DO before they interview to companies they're excited about

It boggles my mind that writeups like this talk about what % of funding goes to female founders but don’t mention what % of pitches were by female founders in the 1st place Not saying there isn’t a problem, but w/o real data, you can’t have a real convo
