This response by the college board, caving to bad-faith attacks by conservatives and letting them determining the proper way to examine the Black experience will only encourage more of this.

I fly a LOT and I am heartily sick of this “lease on life” song they play at the beginning of every flight. It sounds like a roomful of ad execs tried to write a Lumineers song (not that I particularly love the Lumineers) and they BLAST it out of tinny speakers.

& ask "what is disinfo to democracy" and argue that epistemological stability serves only the powerful. The moral panic over disinfo is a pushback against tech companies' "technocratic populism."

The final theme, of course, is democracy. I love Kristen Eddy's work on how partisan actors use moral claims as both political communication and disinformation strategy. (also I am an ego monster and this reinforces my MMNH model)

Other scholars provide new frames for disinfo studies. Shaden Shabayek suggests drawing from ignorance studies (agnotology) to understand disinfo uptake not as "a simple lack of knowledge" but "as the product of a social construction"

Disinfo studies' Western/US-centric approach has severely limited our empirical understanding. In their piece on "authoritarian neoliberal statecraft," Nguyá»…n Yáşżn-Khanh and investigate the political economy of disinfo in Vietnam

Incredible thread below on the evils of Ticketmaster/Live Nation and how various musicians attempted/failed to thwart them- and how everything only got worse.

Good afternoon music fans! In honor of all the chumps over 40 camping out in online Hell to score concert tickets today, a thread on all the times your (least?) favorite musician crossed paths with the omnipotent empire known as Ticketmaster/Live Nation.

Does anyone have any recommendations for excellent ethnographies of media/fandom/internet use from the last few years? More about audiences than producers. (E.g, not Irani or Dunbar-Hester or Lindtner, as much as I love all their work). Bonus for non-US

How embarassing for @nypost to write an article where every fact given in the title is a lie. Tonje Gjevjon is not an actress, is not being investigated for saying men can’t be lesbians and is not facing up to 3 years in prison. This is fake news. An entirely fabricated story.

I have two professional resolutions for 2023: 1. Write more engagingly and less like a social scientist and 2. Think expansively and creatively about solutions to the problems my work explores
