senate dems already indicated they'd trade wall for daca, really curious if they'd trade gutting of family migration for path to citizenship

given they capitulated on the shutdown then went on to claim they'd pass a budget without an immigration deal they aren't exactly operating from a place of strength

it's a trap; Left hardliners won't support it (already denouncing any prospect of compromise at all), and that lets him withdraw it and end DACA when Supremes rule, while blaming it on Dems
-
don't need hard leftists, just ten in the senate (meaning schumer's aye is all it takes to flip enough)
-
if dem leaders gave a shit about their radical wing they wouldn't have caved on the shutdown the very first business day it was in effect
-
The shutdown wasn't being usefully instrumental in getting a DACA thing through anyway; Reps weren't ever going to cave to that (their base likes shutdowns, mostly), and optics were really bad for Dems.
-
But all Lefty organs I've seen say the WH plan is a no-go. Slogan "dreamers are not a bargaining chip". They won't accept any compromise at all.
-
media is significantly further left than senate dems, and senate dems know "clean dream" will never happen
-
they are prepared to bargain and unlike gop don't have the freedom to walk away (unless scotus upholds 9th cir but that would be insane)
-
I'm guessing Trump won't accept anything less than what this proposal gives, and if Dems don't just accept it right away he'll withdraw the offer and let them talk to Cruz as bad cop.
