The story of Kodak missing the digital era because of medium-term concerns is a pivotal event in my conception of the inadequacies of public companies and their human guidance to deliver fundamental change that conflicts with the current model, but betters the world for everyone.

and phone sensors are commodity hardware rather than products. and professional photographers are a dwindling breed anyhow
-
my point is just I don't think it's a clear "short-sighted and missed out, shoulda innovated!" narrative
-
because it is true that the innovation they feared to unleash actually did destroy their industry

I'm actually a pro photographer and every year or so we go to the photo expo in NY. Canon and Nikon both have HUGE installations there and both are coming out with more high middle and low end cameras every year. I don't know if that means they are profitable. If not they're /1

not going quiet into that good night. Big breakthroughs recently are toward smaller cheaper faster better and anything that can fly. High end cameras moving toward adding more video excellence. If one of them put a phone chip and os in a mid-range camera, they'd kill it.

They made a pass at this a few years back, but completely ignored the ux (which should be phonelike). Samsung has come closest and has the best shot I think. My point is: I can see that they are actually trying and just not quite getting it right. http://techpp.com/2014/05/16/best-android-cameras/ … /3

Canon is apparently quietly killing it. Down since the introduction of the iPhone, but not cratering. https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/09/07/why-is-no-one-talking-about-canon-incs-stock.aspx …
