so much time and energy is wasted choosing between things that are more or less as good as each other, or better/worse in ways that aren't being appreciated (flighty modern fusion diet can miss nutrients in a way that time-tested diet doesn't)

i'm jealous of people from cultures with a stronger emotional attachment to their cuisine. the food is augmented by the associations you have with it. memories, family, ritual are all good

1. I like the idea that each culture's cuisine is "self-contained" (i.e. contains sufficient nutrition to keep a human healthy). 2. Once I eat the same thing for a few days, I often start to crave it specifically rather than "food" in abstract.
