I'm tentatively planning to attend the Berkeley rally (half counter-protesting, half just to see what goes on). Anyone want to hang out?https://twitter.com/KQEDnews/status/900906882855874560 …

this was an effective strategy in its time because it attracted attention by shocking sensibilities
and it was definitely not a "battle" in that the goal of the protesting party was to have violence done to them to garner sympathy
new liberal-style protests (OWS, women's march) are largely people cargo culting the old methods without realizing they don't work anymore
but to the extent they have any strategy, it is not about winning the public, but petitioning the authorities for dispensation
the college protests like those that followed from missouri and the stupid halloween thing are also perfect examples of this
regardless, what I said to Bob still standshttps://twitter.com/sonyaellenmann/status/901185878847967232 …
BUT a friend just pinged me and reminded me that I said I'd go hiking at the same time as the Sunday thing in Berkeley, so I'm out
