Algebra is the most failed course at community colleges across the country. Is it time to nix the requirement?http://n.pr/2vCphok
and fwiw I am of the opinion that some are good at math and others at verbal is bullshit

Well, I would argue that I am a prime example. To assume that everyone has the same capacity to learn and comprehend the same things
-
not saying everyone has the same capacity, saying those skills more often directly than inversely correlated
-
I say this as someone who memed themself into the "I'm a person of letters I can't do math" thing
-
it's status signalling, people believe the left/right brain nonsense so a smart person who "can't do math"...
-
I wouldn't say I "can't" do math. I'm just not very good at advanced math or algebra. Basic stuff, I'm fine with.
-
it's a skill/mode of thinking that has to be acquired like any other, not a natural predisposition
-
I failed algebra three times in HS, dropped out, went to college for creative writing
-
required to take precalc or "math for liberal arts" and the thought of the latter offended my sensibilities

smart people can be good at both but many psych themselves into believing it's one of the other
-
and also the latter is easier to fake
