Algebra is the most failed course at community colleges across the country. Is it time to nix the requirement?http://n.pr/2vCphok

False. Not every person is the same. We all aren't proficient at the same things.
-
I'm not saying they didn't take it, I'm saying they didn't learn it
-
as far as I'm aware (I tested out) the classes are materially similar and college algebra is generally remedial
-
and fwiw I am of the opinion that some are good at math and others at verbal is bullshit
-
Well, I would argue that I am a prime example. To assume that everyone has the same capacity to learn and comprehend the same things
-
not saying everyone has the same capacity, saying those skills more often directly than inversely correlated
-
I say this as someone who memed themself into the "I'm a person of letters I can't do math" thing
-
it's status signalling, people believe the left/right brain nonsense so a smart person who "can't do math"...

Furthermore, it is ridiculous to force someone to take classes not tailored to their major when they are paying for the education.

Algebra is applicable in every day life. You just don't see it.
