      to me being a generalist means having ability to quickly make yourself knowledgeable and effective at arbitrary disciplines

      good specialists are useful subordinates but not much for pursuing goals on their own. academia caters to this type

          This works if you can get your foot in the door, but I did it and have hit a career wall especially trying to move toward InfoSec specialty

          Ive worked my way up to being IT Manager & a Security Officer at an ivy. Can't leave though, private sector won't even look at my resume.
