Republicans in Washington State sponsored a "revenue neutral carbon tax". The Democrats shot it down, because it didn't grow government

"Revenue neutral" means they offset the revenue by reducing taxes elsewhere, which is a very Republican solution to the problem.

I, too, don't really want to grow government; I feel like the highly polarized republican/democrat dichotomy is a giant obstacle to change.
