he could’ve typed them explicitly, as I often do. Prob didn’t, but some do manually add typographic glyphs.

yes it was soon after brought to my attention some 3rd-party apps do this. an abomination

only if you are unable to type appropriate characters when required—as Tweetbot appears not to.
