Verification is not an endorsement by Twitter. Verification means the person is prominent enough (whether in a good way or bad way) to warrant confirmed attribution. If Hitler was on Twitter, he should be verified so that the public can be sure tweets attributed to him are his.

Have you looked at my list of publications and media appearances?

Nothing I said suggested that you should not be verified. With all your publications and media appearances, I would expect your blue tick is on its way. My point was, it's disingenious to imply that Twitter verification is some sort of endorsement by Twitter, or morality based.

Everything has implications for meaning and value. Thus, all things include ethical choices :)

That's true and a really good point. That said, Twitter themselves have clarified already the main criteria / purpose for verification on their platform. Twitter has said that verification is for prominent / notable people regardless of their personal morality / actions.

Verification isn't based on the number of followers you have either. There are people who have a small number of followers but are unquestionably verifiable. If someone wins a Nobel Prize but doesn't tweet much and has maybe 5000 followers, do you think they won't be verified?

Prominence / Notability / Newsworthiness is not the same thing as the number of followers you have. A lot of people assume this, but it's really not true at all. That's why many people you have never heard of are verified and you're not.

I've literally been published in two books, been quoted in 20+ major publications, appeared on television news twice, had two papers published by the leading publication in my field...

Then you should probably be verified. That said, and please believe me that I fully empathise with you, neither you nor I can speak to what the verification process is at Twitter. I can only refer to what Twitter has put out about verification themselves. You prob will be soon
