Verification isn't based on the number of followers you have either. There are people who have a small number of followers but are unquestionably verifiable. If someone wins a Nobel Prize but doesn't tweet much and has maybe 5000 followers, do you think they won't be verified?

Prominence / Notability / Newsworthiness is not the same thing as the number of followers you have. A lot of people assume this, but it's really not true at all. That's why many people you have never heard of are verified and you're not.
