In the world of spatial computing, it is paramount that we always give the user the power and ability to interact in a way that makes them feel wholly comfortable in their own body. Giving the user stability with their physical presence in VR/AR is a basic need.

I've spoken on this a bit before, but if you're interested in how to improve the design of user presence in VR/AR systems this is a high-level starting point: https://realityofdesign.com/2018/03/27/how-the-hierarchy-of-needs-in-vr-is-dependent-upon-ux/ …

This isn't just a VR/AR thing either! It happens when you cant open pickle jars and then think you're weak. It happens when you can't figure out how to turn on a shower and then feel stupid. It happens when you can't look at a mirror when in a wheelchair and then feel isolated.

Interpreting intent is difficult. Like, I don’t want to reach for a physical object and accidentally delete my photos or something because a system interpreted my gesture as such and there happened to be a UI element in the way.

OOF. That is an incredibly powerful way to put that.

Exactly! But like a good example of this is when pickle jars make you feel weak because you can't open them. In a lot of users minds, it's not the jar's fault - even though it technically is just a poor design.

I mean, I kinda felt like I was the one broken when I realized I couldn’t use the device due to my much needed prescription glasses
-
That's specifically why the company created snap-in prescription inserts available for the headset. I'm sorry you felt that way, that's completely valid and something multiple people have told Magic Leap about.
