The death of #JamalKhashoggi should end American "dreams of a reforming Arab strongman" @jacksondiehlhttps://wapo.st/2qhDbeU?tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.6fd9ff1fdbff …

Ok so what do you all then recommend? Elections, will they work and given that Islamists will probably win such elections will you then stop complaining about the "export of Wahhabism" and accept a reversal of newly granted women freedom's? Easy to pontificate w/out consequences

And that assumes that you could even transition into democracy without violence. Look at examples in the region. Iraq even with an American occupation and hundreds of thousands of casualties still struggles without law and order and basic services despite its massive oil wealth

Building a successful governance model in the Arab world has been a huge challenge. At least the traditional monarchies have delivered stability, basic services and a larger share of oil income than any other model of government and over a 50 year period with all their faults.

Have human rights been sometimes trampled on, absolutely, but all others whether "republican" or theocratic (like Iran) have abused their people a thousand times more. You are much luckier being a Saudi than a Libyan, Iranian, Iraqi, Algerian or even a Venezuelan. All oil rich.

Instead of pontificating idealistic nonsense come up with practical suggestions + open yourself up to debate where your assumptions + theories can be tested + questioned. Easy to write on your own platforms with no pushback that will expose the shallowness of such arguments.

Not telling #SaudiArabia how to govern itself. Just don’t export intolerance and don’t murder/incarcerate nonviolent critics. #JusticeForJamal
