Hi @aliShihabi please don't use my article condemning the killing of journalists by governments *other* that Saudi Arabia to try and mount a "whataboutism" defence of MBS and the Saudi government's murder of a man you once called your friend. #Khashoggihttps://twitter.com/aliShihabi/status/1055809095536648193 …

Why not? It is exactly that. Neither you in the article or I ever justified the murder of Jamal but the point you make is exactly my point whatever "whataboutism" means. Come on Mehdi don't get pushed around by a baying mob. You wrote an important relevant article stick by it.

Sigh. Of course I stick by it, but you don't understand what whataboutism is. I condemn the US *and* Saudi governments for killing journos and then trying to cover it up. You condemn the US in order to deflect from the Saudis. Will you condemn MBS over Jamal? I'll be here waiting

Yes, that's the problem: Ali doesn't seem to realize what whataboutism is and why it's especially problematic here. Also, a key difference: Mehdi has spoken with great moral clarity about Jamal's murder. Ali has not but instead has defended the very regime which murdered Jamal

There is a big difference between defending a country and its values and defending the regime. Ali and most Saudis I know do the first, not the latter.

That's literally all Ali has done the past few weeks, unless in his mind Saudi Arabia and the Saudi regime are inextricably intertwined (which one could argue they are in historical terms)

Shadi look at my timeline and you will see I condemned Jamal's dissapearence on Oct 3 before you + others even got into the game. But you have been eagerly promoting Qatar for years as any basic Google search will show Why is that I wonder? Your intellectual curiosity maybe?
